The third installment of Strange Brew sees:
Will Burns – A solo acoustic set from our beloved frontman of Buckinghamshire’s Alt – Country rockers” Treecreeper”. Fresh out of the studio with their second album soon to be released. These are wary and poetic songs ” that have a heavy smoking, hungover on whisky feeling that’s indicative of the No Depression scene.
White Lightning – Coming at you on slightly heavier tip than our usual guests, White Lightning are a fresh young bunch of Harrow rockers weened on AD/DC , Rose Tattoo and all that is bluesy, dirty and “in your face”. With energentic stage tactics and classic riffage these guys really get the party going!
Straylings Hail from Bahrain and England, Straylings were formed in London, summer 2007. Influenced by artists such as Neil Young and Mazzy Star to The Pixies and Fleetwood Mac, they blend churning guitars with uplifting melodies. Unsettling sounds echo about a smokey southern dance hall. Following the recording of their first EP, Straylings have been featured on Huw Stephens’ Radio 1 show and Tom Robinsons BBC 6 show & podcast, as well as gig recommendations from Timeout. They have also recently finished recording new tracks with Julian Simmons, whose previous credits include Midlake.
The Mighty Low – Canadian Brothers folk rock 4 piece draw on 60′s / 70′s Americana folk rock / classic rock and sprinkle a little bit of 90′s shoegaze atmospherics into the mix. Giving us songs that conjure up visions from farm country Canada’s dirt roads and wheat fields to stormy, coastal californian nights. Once described as Bon Iver fronting Fleetwood Mac ( not sure how accurate that is though!), these boys deliver heart wrenching, understated anthems that haunt.
From 7pm on Sunday the 13th of December at The Legion on Old Street. FREE ENTRY.

Alpaca is rarer than cashmere, warmer than wool. From high in the Peruvian Andes comes one of the finest luxury fibers in the world. Peruvian alpaca —once reserved for Inca royalty—is silky against the skin, velvety smooth to the touch.

Alpaca’s unique hollow core gives it an insulating softness that is extremely lightweight yet much warmer and stronger than wool. And, because it contains minimal lanolin, alpaca can often be worn by people who are allergic to wool. Cousin to the llama, alpacas graze at elevations of 10,000 to 14,000 feet on the harsh steppes of the Peruvian Andes. Their thick, sumptuous coats grow naturally in over 40 shades—from ivory to black, with all the grays and browns in between—and the fleece dyes to glorious colour as well.

These noble creatures are tended by native Andean herdsmen, who humanely shear them every other year at the onset of the rainy season. The yield is about eight pounds of fleece per animal. The first clip of the shearling alpaca, called baby alpaca, provides a featherweight, heavenly soft fiber that is even more prized than the fleece obtained from herd adults. Alpaca fibers have been handspun and hand-loomed for centuries by native artisans. Made into woolen or worsted yarns, the fibers can be used alone or blended with pima cotton, silk or even man-made fibers. Alpaca imparts an old world durability to contemporary fabrications.
